Brian Hartwell Runs for School Board

Not that he didn't already have enough to do, Brian decided to run for the San Leandro Unified School District Board.  You might ask yourself, "When did he have time to do this?"  After all, he coaches his daughter Elizabeth's soccer team, is always busy as General Manager at Alpine Awards and is designing the website for Chelle's company. 
When asked, "Why in the world would you want to do this thankless job?" He answers with a large smile, "Because I care." 
Things at Alpine Awards have improved greatly under his

leadership and it was his desire to help the school district improve as well.  His wife, Chelle, was very glad that he ran.  "It lets the leadership know that the community wants accountability."
Although winning would have been better, Brian took solace in the fact that for a political newcomer he was able to garner nearly 40% of the vote.  After he lost the big question was, " What are you going to do now?'' "Spend time with my family" he responds.
Brian enjoys his involvement with various school committees and with other community activities such as refereeing

youth soccer as well as coaching. He thoroughly enjoys teaching the adult Sunday School class at church.  His favorite pastimes are taking his kids to the park, playing soccer with them and mountain biking.

Chelle--Jill of all Trades

This year has been a busy year for Chelle.  Last year she started working full time for a house ware rental company and really enjoys her work.  She has the opportunity to explore her creative side designing gift baskets and marketing them.  Meanwhile she continues to dabble in tax prepara

tion and bookkeeping. Last  June she finished her second term as PTA President and is now the Treasurer and newsletter editor.  This month she was elected to the board of our local soccer league. All the while, she continues serving on the activity committee at church as .

as the flyer person. However, her favorite activities are always with the school and she often  makes noises about going back to school to become a teacher.
Her favorite pastime reading. It is not uncommon for her to devour a book in one afternoon.
