August 25-26, 2005

A family reunion was convened at the "beach house" in San Luis Obispo. Saturday was spent at Avila Beach and Sunday featured a banquet and swimming in the club house in the park at San Luis. Everybody was able to attend and a great time was had by all. As you will notice by the pictures we all got a lot of sun. See the Photos

Thanksgiving was celebrated at Brian and Chelle's home. All were able to attend except for Paul & Angie. The flu bug hit her so strong she was unable to travel.

Lunch was the traditional Hartwell cold-cut feast. Dinner consisted of al turkey and all the fixin's. Ben even made french onion soup to get us started.

All was served on Grampa Hartwell's Haviland China. Prior to Thanksgiving Brian researched the markings on the bottom and found that the china was manufactured circa 1894-1909.

The twins, Nathan and Tanner, do what little boys do by exploring. They surprised Brian and Chelle with how their house is no longer "child proofed"! Emili was able to spend the night alone with Bekah for her first sleepover.

Although they weren't able to make it in person, Paul called Thanksgiving evening to announce that Angy and he were expecting their first child.

Paul and Angy were married in the Los Angeles Temple. The majority of both families were able to make it to the ceremony and reception. Paul's family came from all over California, but Angy's parents made the trip all the way from Guatemala.

The reception had a distinctly Latin flair including "comidas del pais" (ethnic food) and salsa music. A good time was had by all.

May 3, 2003

On May 3rd and 4th 2003 we all congregated at the San Luis Obispo "Beach House" for a combo celebration of Ben's Birthday and Fred's retirement.

Dinner was a Honey Baked ham with pinapple sauce, macaroni and cheese and vegetables in an alfredo cream sauce. Dessert was comprised of a white sheet cake decorated by Loretta, homemade mint chocolate chip ice-cream by Joel and Melissa and a cherry cheesecake that Ben inadvertently sat on.(we let him eat that piece!)

Earlier in the day, clayton spent some time asking Grampa about what life was like when he was a kid, and we all enjoyed tales of Grampa's childhood shooting a .22 rifle, dead cows mooing, and black and white television that had only 3 channels.

On Sunday we went to church in Santa Maria to participate in and witness the blessing of Joel and Melissa's newest addition Henry Frederick. We adjorned to Joel and Melissa's place to take the family portrait, which was followed with an afternoon of grilled hamburgers and hot dogs.

It had been a year and a half since all the family was together. It was great seeing one another, and catching up on the details of life. All in all we left one another grateful for having a family to love and share with.
