Nobody Puts Baby in the Corner (And Nobody Can Make Me Feel Guilty About This)

Elena

It is 10:47 PM on a Monday. I have watched Dirty Dancing before, I think four times, maybe five, and tonight I sat down to watch it again and felt zero shame about it. There's something about spring break that makes me want to drag a blanket to the couch and do absolutely nothing useful for an entire evening, and I leaned into that fully.

I don't know how to explain why this movie still gets me every time. It came out twenty years ago and it is not subtle about anything, the music, the dancing, the whole 'I carried a watermelon' moment, and yet. Yet! Patrick Swayze does that lift at the end and I lose my mind like I'm watching it for the first time. My mom used to watch this when she was young and I totally get it now. Some things are just timeless and I'm not going to argue with that.

completely gone for this movie, every single time

I ended up lying on the couch for a good fifteen minutes after the credits rolled just kind of... thinking about it. Which sounds dramatic but if you've seen the ending you understand. There's a reason it became a classic. Also 'I've Had the Time of My Life' was stuck in my head for the rest of the night and I'm not even mad.

post-movie ceiling stare. a tradition.

Anyway. Spring break is officially underway and if the rest of it goes this peacefully, I will consider it a success. More to come.
