Four Cans of Chickpeas
I went to the grocery store this morning without a list. I want to be very clear that I knew I was doing this. I stood in the kitchen, thought 'I'll remember,' and left. This is not a new impulse. This is a pattern of behavior I have documented in my own head many times and apparently learned nothing from.
I came home with four cans of chickpeas, one onion, a block of cheddar that was on sale and felt like good judgment in the moment, and absolutely no coffee. The coffee was the whole reason I went. I had half a mug left this morning and thought, I should go today, and then I went, and then I bought chickpeas. Four of them. When I opened the cabinet to put them away I found two more from a previous expedition that I had apparently also felt very strongly about at the time. I now have six cans of chickpeas and I am not a person who cooks with chickpeas regularly. I do not have a plan for the chickpeas. The chickpeas are just here now.
found two MORE cans in the cabinet. this is fine.
I had the onion and the cheddar for lunch and it was fine. Gerald is thriving on the windowsill next to the collapsed bowl, which is more than I can say for my meal planning. I wrote 'coffee' on a piece of paper and put it on the counter so I will see it before I leave next time, which is the thing I should have done before I left this time. Live and learn. Six cans.
lunch is whatever this is
