The Photo I Haven't Done Anything With

Elena

March third. There is a photo in my camera roll from three weeks ago that I have not done anything with. It is a flyer. It is for a letterpress workshop in April, one Saturday, community center, twenty-two dollars. I photographed it after yoga because the paper stock was good and the layout was very clean and I thought: I should look into this. And then I went home and made pasta and watched something on TV and the photo has just been sitting there, unaddressed, like a small polite question waiting in the corner of a room.

Today is Saturday and I am doing very little. This is not a complaint, I think I needed a day that didn't have a shape to it. I made coffee, I sat on the couch, I looked at Gerald for a while. He is growing. He doesn't care that I photographed a flyer and then did nothing with it. The collapsed bowl is still on the windowsill. These are the permanent furniture of my apartment now and I find that genuinely comforting in a way I couldn't have predicted.

I have been going to yoga on Wednesdays. I don't think about it the way I used to think about running, as a thing to justify or report on. I just go. This feels like a development worth noting, even if it is small. The Carol letter is mailed. The yoga is a thing I do on Wednesdays. The sketchbook is in the kitchen drawer. These are facts about my life that were not facts six months ago, and most of them happened without me announcing them in advance.

I think I might register for the letterpress workshop. I haven't decided. The photo is still in my camera roll. I keep meaning to look at it again and keep not doing it, which is maybe the same as deciding slowly. Either way, April is six weeks away and I am not in a hurry and it is a Saturday in March and the light through the window is doing something nice and I am going to sit here for a little while longer before I decide anything at all.
