Third Viewing, No Notes
April twenty-seventh. The movie doesn't even open until May fourth and I have already watched the trailer, the full three-minute one, not a TV spot, three times this week. Not in a row, technically. But close enough that the bowl of cereal I made during the second watch was not fully finished before I started the third.
I don't do this with everything. I'm not someone who reads every review before opening weekend or looks up spoilers on purpose. But there is a specific category of thing that makes me want to absorb everything available before the main event, the way you listen to an album in the car a few times before the actual concert. The Avengers has crossed into that category. I watched Iron Man 2 and Thor at the dollar cinema last fall and I have had strong feelings about this for a while.
Third viewing, no regrets.
What I keep coming back to in the trailer, watching it on my laptop with the volume up while my upstairs neighbor apparently learns to rearrange furniture at nine pm, is how much they managed to fit without it feeling like a highlight reel. Usually trailers for big ensemble movies feel like a character lineup. This one feels like a thing that might actually have stakes. That might be naive. I've been wrong about movies before. But the couch time I'm putting in right now feels, at minimum, very reasonable.
Next Friday. I already looked up which showing has the best parking situation. The letterpress workshop is Saturday. The week has a shape to it now, which is its own small satisfaction.
