Four Minutes and a Settings Menu

ElenaSimone

Three weeks. That's how long I've been watching my phone drain to forty percent by noon and telling myself I'd look into it later. Simone fixed it in the break room before I'd even finished my granola bar. She didn't even make a thing of it, she just said 'give it here' and started talking through the steps like she was reading a grocery list. I stood there nodding and pretending I understood what she was changing. I did not understand what she was changing.

The thing is, I had the same update. We both did. Same version, same complaints from half the people we know, there's been something floating around about background refresh and the new ambient sensing feature quietly running all the time, and Simone had apparently already read the thread and found the toggle. I had apparently spent three weeks sighing at my battery percentage. These are the two kinds of people in the world.

it worked (allegedly)

She propped her phone against a mug to run the timer, I don't know why, it just seemed like the move at the time, and somewhere in the middle of the tutorial it became a photo. Neither of us planned it. The break room corkboard is visible in the background if you look, which feels about right for a Tuesday.

My phone made it to seven-thirty last night with twenty-two percent left. I texted Simone to report this. She sent back a single thumbs up. This is the most efficient friendship I have ever been in.
