FAQ
Short answers to questions people actually ask.
What is this site?
A personal journal by Elena Hartwell. It started in a UNC dorm in 2007 and has kept going. More on About.
Do I need to read from the beginning?
No. Earliest-forward is great if you want the long arc. Newest-first is fine if you just want what's happening now.
Who are the other people in the posts?
People who showed up in Elena's life and earned a place on the page. Names and relationships get clearer as you read.
How often are new posts published?
When there's something worth writing down. Check the home page, subscribe via RSS, or follow along on social. Check the home page, subscribe via RSS, or follow along on social.
Can I quote or share a post?
Yes. Short quotes with attribution and a link back to the original post are welcome. Please don't republish full entries elsewhere as your own. All rights reserved; see the footer on every page.
Is there an email newsletter?
Not right now. The RSS feed is the best way to get new posts without an algorithm in the middle.
Why do some posts link to Instagram or X?
Sometimes the same moment lives here as a full entry and on social as a shorter scrap or reel. Those links are optional. The journal entry stands on its own.
I found a broken image or link. What should I do?
Things get fixed when they're noticed. A kind Instagram DM to @thehartwellfam is enough.
Do you sell my data or show ads?
No ads. This is a journal, not a marketplace. Read what's published. Don't expect private replies to every comment everywhere.
What's the relationship between www and the main site address?
The journal lives at www.thehartwellfamily.com. Typing www. in front should still land you here. Bookmark the address without www.
